Take this list to two or three kitchen companies and ask them to price against the same scope. It is the only way to compare quotes that are actually comparable.
A calculator can't see behind your splashback, under your vinyl or inside the wall you want gone. A kitchen designer who has stood in the room can turn this range into a fixed quote you can hold them to.
Worth having ready: a sketch with wall lengths, the year the house was built, photos of the current kitchen, and whether it's a house or an apartment.
Nearly every kitchen company builds a quote the same way. Cabinetry by the metre, a benchtop by the square metre, the licensed trades, the site work, and the appliances on top.
The calculator follows that structure, then adds design and project coordination, Home Warranty insurance when the contract passes $20,000, and GST once at the end. Every headline figure includes GST, in line with the Australian Consumer Law single pricing rule.
Cabinetry is the single biggest line in most kitchens, commonly a third of the budget. It is priced per linear metre of base cabinets along the floor, island included. Overhead cabinets count at 0.6 of a base metre and each tall pantry or oven tower at 1.2.
The labour-heavy lines are then adjusted for the house itself. An older home with walls out of square, or an apartment with lift bookings and strata hours, adds a percentage to every line that depends on time on site.
The finish on the doors moves the rate more than anything else. These rates are supplied and installed, before GST.
At the bespoke end the rate per metre stops being a reliable guide. Bespoke joinery is priced off a set of shop drawings, so get at least two itemised quotes.
Engineered stone has been banned in Australia since 1 July 2024, so the old mid-range default is gone. Porcelain and sintered stone are not covered by the ban.
Products sold since then as "low-silica" or "silica-free" are a different category. Ask your supplier to confirm in writing that the product is not engineered stone under the ban. Reputable ones will.
Several Victorian rules are date-sensitive and change the price. Each is allowed for in the calculator.

Two quotes can look identical on cabinetry and land thousands of dollars apart. Check these four things before you sign.

Most savings come from decisions made before the cabinets are drawn, not from haggling afterwards.

Every number on this page has a stated basis. Here is what that basis is.
Rates are modelled on Victorian, mainly metropolitan Melbourne, market data for 2026 and will differ elsewhere. The statutory figures are reviewed each July.
are built from published 2026 Australian kitchen and benchtop cost guides. They are illustrative ranges, not any kitchen company's pricing.
come from Building and Plumbing Commission and Consumer Affairs Victoria guidance on Home Warranty, and Safe Work guidance on the engineered stone prohibition.
returns a range rather than a single figure, because a single figure before anyone has measured the room is false precision.
